Das, trained in Calcutta and Santiniketan, belonged to the Neo-Indian School shaped by the Bengal revival movement. His teachers and peers included Binode Behari Mukherjee and Ramkinkar Baij, from whom he absorbed an emphasis on mood, line, and natural form. Throughout the 1970s–1990s, Das frequently portrayed women in reflective or interior states—eschewing mythological tropes for human, often solitary presence.
