Keren SouzaKohn (b. 1956) carries forward the artistic legacy of her father, F.N. Souza, while forging her own distinct path. Raised in a household where creativity was paramount, she was deeply influenced by her mother, Liselotte Souza (née Kristian (Kohn)), a Holocaust survivor and actress. Early exposure to Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, Kafka, and Camus instilled in her a profound engagement with existentialism and the complexities of the human condition.

In the 1970s, while studying at Ravensbourne College, Keren explored Abstract Expressionism but sought deeper artistic mastery through independent study. She developed a style that merges figuration and abstraction, often investigating the tension between spiritual and physical realms.

A transformative shift in her practice came with motherhood, leading her to embrace color and symbolic elements, including Hebrew letters and mystical themes. Her work continues to evolve, exploring memory, identity, and transformation, extending Souza’s artistic lineage while carving out her own space within it.
