This is the key historical record of the 1903 Delhi Durbar, a lavish ceremonial event orchestrated by Viceroy Lord Curzon to proclaim King Edward VII as the Emperor of India.
The book is a classic example of the renowned A. & C. Black "Twenty-Shilling Series" of colour plate books. The content is celebrated for its 100 magnificent colour plates reproduced from Mortimer Menpes's original watercolour paintings, capturing the immense pomp, pageantry, portraits, and festivities of the event. The accompanying descriptive text was written by his daughter, Dorothy Menpes, based on their first-hand experiences in Delhi. This volume remains one of the most comprehensive visual documents of the British Empire at its pinnacle.
