This is a highly rare and historically unique volume containing two distinct photographic publications bound together, printed in Bombay during the early years of the British Raj.

The main work, The Caves of Karla Illustrated (1861), is a crucial piece of early Indology and photographic history, using W. Johnson's photographs to document the ancient Buddhist Excavations of Western India.

The second work, Four Views of the Agri-Horticultural Society's Garden, Sewree (1862), serves as a contemporary record of colonial civic life, featuring photographs (from Collodion Negatives) by Henry Hinton taken under the patronage of the Society members.

The binding, featuring marbled boards with a leather spine and a gilt title label, confirms that these two scarce pamphlets were deliberately bound together as a collected historical work shortly after publication.
