This is an exceptionally rare lot of eight original issues from the seminal series, "Chatterjee's Picture Albums." These albums were published by the Modern Review Office under the editorship of the influential nationalist journalist and cultural patron Ramananda Chatterjee to bring high-quality reproductions of Modern Indian Art to a wider audience.

The albums served a vital role in the Bengal School of Art movement, showcasing the works of its founders and pioneers, including Abanindranath Tagore, his student Nandalal Bose, and other masters like Asitkumar Haldar. Each album contains approximately 16 plates (typically high-quality colour reproductions, often tipped-in) of paintings on mythological, folkloric, and contemporary Indian subjects. These issues are key historical artifacts, often disassembled for framing, making intact sets or even individual volumes highly sought after by collectors of Indian art and cultural history.
