This is the First Edition of a deeply personal and philanthropic book published by Queen Alexandra. The volume features over 130 photographs taken by the Queen herself, providing a rare, candid glimpse into the private life of the British Royal Family and their relatives across Europe (including the Russian and Danish Royal families).
The book was a monumental publishing success in 1908, explicitly conceived and sold for the purpose of raising funds for charity (as stated on the title page). It contains a mixture of formal photogravures and images tipped-in onto dark pages to resemble a personal photo album, making it an invaluable piece of Edwardian royal history and a pioneering example of royal photography being used for public engagement.
